She was born July 12, 1915 in Gray, OK and was later married to Gilbert "Smokey" Milstead on April 11, 1936 in Long Beach, CA. Fern and Gilbert moved to Brawley in April 1947. She was a homemaker, a charter memeber of the PMH Women's Auxilliary, a member of the Brawley Women's Club and loved to play golf as a memeber of the Del Rio Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Gilbert in 1983.
Fern is survived by her daughters, Marsha Cooley of Brawley, and Karen Nelson of San Diego; 9 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the PMH Women's Auxilliary for Nursing Scholarships or the Pioneer Museum.
