Carl Ludwig Jacobitz, 86, of Rogersville, who for many years conducted a blacksmith shop there, died at 5 a.m. today at his home after a brief illness.
The deceased was born Sept. 12, 1842, in West Prussia, Germany. He was married there July 19, 1869, to Tillie Lemke. Prior to his marriage, Mr. Jacobitz served with the German Army, participating in the war with Austria in 1866 and in the Franco-Prussian War during the period of 1870-1871.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobitz moved to Chicago in 1872. The former followed the trade of a blacksmith, spending two years in Chicago, later going to Milwaukee and subsequently to Lomira, where he lived for 15 years. Mr. and Mrs. Jacobitz moved to Rogersville 27 years ago.
Surviving the deceased are his widow; four children, Emil R. Jacobitz of Springvale, Millie and Charles F. at home and Mrs. Alfred Backaus of the Town of Oakfield. He also leaves 10 grandchildren. Mr. Jacobitz was a member of the Rogersville Lutheran Church.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday from the residence and at 2 p.m. from the Rogersville Lutheran Church. The Rev. O. H. Wonn of Brandon will officiate. Burial will be at Rogersville Cemetery.
