1956 – WILLIAM SANDERS

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Miller Memorial Baptist Church here for William S. Sanders, 82, of Collinsville, route 1. He died Sunday at 7:30 a.m. in his home, after an illness of 16 months.

Rev. Clyde Beck of Sherman, Baptist minister, and Rev. Harold Johnson, pastor officiated. Burial was in the Ethel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Doyle Scoggins, Frank Walkup, Claude Ragsdale, Jess Burgin, L.C. Haning and V.C. Harley.

A life-long resident of Grayson County, where he was born Feb. 1, 1874, Mr. Sanders was a retired farmer and land owner. He married Miss Florence Matthews in 1933. He was a member of the Ethel Baptist Church for 63 years, serving as church school superintendent for 14 years and as a deacon. For many years, he taught the Young Peoples class in the church.

Survivors are his wife; one son, R.C. Sanders of Collinsville; five daughters, Mrs. W.W. McMillan and Mrs. L.F. Clark, Jr. both of Houston. Mrs. Lloyd Faulkner, Mrs. R.V. McWhorter and Mrs. Lee Scoggins of Collinsville; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
