As a telephone operator for the phone company in SLC, she met the love of her life, Don Crockett Linford, of Kaysville, Utah in 1944. Don and Esther were married on August 14, 1945, the day World War II ended. They then rode the train to San Francisco where dad was immediately deployed to Okinawa to serve overseas in the Army Air Corps. In 1947, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.
Family was always first and foremost to Don and Esther, who raised five children: Marsha Linford, of Boise, Ted (Karen), of Seeley Lake, MT, Richard (Lindsey), of Boise, Marianne McIntosh (Mike Reuling), of Boise, and David (Neysa), of Missoula, MT.
Mom and Dad could be found just about any day of the week cheering on their children, whether in football, basketball, swimming, baseball or music. As a family, we lived on the water…we all loved water sports! Dad drove the boat and mom always had the best clam chowder waiting when we arrived home tired and hungry.
Esther was the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren (Aaron, Ian, Jim, Sadie, Jessa, Kelsey, Seth, Ryan, Abby, Dax, Dane, Jurell and Lauren) and four great-grandchildren (Camden, Brody, Alexa and Brandon).
As a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mom served in many callings and was a great supporter of Dad in his callings. Mom also enjoyed her time in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers where she made many dear friends.
Our family would like to thank our angels on earth who provided such loving care and companionship for Mom in her final year: Rhondolyn, Candace, Angela, Melissa, Carol and Porche. We will forever be grateful for their compassion and service.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, and two infant daughters, Sally Ann and Michelle.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 11:00 am at the LDS chapel located at 3200 Cassia St. in Boise. Friends may call to visit with the family at 10 - 10:45 am prior to the services.
Interment will follow the services at Morris Hill Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel.
Any contributions can be made to the Idaho Food Bank in her name.
Mom always said to us that she "was holding us close". Now and forever, mom, we're holding you close…
