Joseph's father "Joseph SR." served as mayor for Lehi, UT from 1922 to 1928.
In 1910, Joseph left his studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT to serve a mormon mission in England. In June 1915 he married RULA LOUISE KELSCH. Through the association of Rula's family he came to know John Wichersham Wooley.
Joseph later married FAWNETTA JESSOP in October 1925. Also, He later married IRENE LOCKET and ANNA KMETZSCH in 1933.
In 1927, Joseph published a pamphlet called "Celestial Marriage" advocating the practice of plural marriage. This was one of the first Mormon fundamentalist tracts and was a factor in his subsequent excommunication by the Mormon church, in July 1929. Joseph was ordained an apostle in the Mormon fundamentalist movement called the "Apostalic United Brotherin by Lorin Calvin Woolley on March 06 1929. And, that same year on May 15, 1929 he was given the title of "Second Elder" by Woolley.
Joseph passed away at 1449 East 1700 South, Salt Lake City, UT. He was 43 Years, 9 months, 13 days old.
