Loretta Maxine Bonham Stuckey, 90, the eldest of seven children, was born to Clarence George Bonham and Hazel May Mears Bonham on November 28, 1916 near Wakita, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy Stuckey, a sister, Helen Van Buskirk, three brothers, Orville Bonham, Mavin Bonham, Dwight Bonham, and a son-in-law, Lynn Sterrett. She is survived by a son, Mervyn Stuckey (wife Karyle) of Tucson, AZ, and a daughter, LaVeta Sterrett of Wichita, KS. Also surviving are five grandchildren who are Michael Stuckey(Katherine) of Jonesboro, Ar, Barbara (Stuckey) Frazier (Mark) of Woodbridge, VA, Cheri (Stuckey) Fassett (Don) of Sterling, VA, Patrick Sterrett of Kansas City, MO, and Bradley Sterrett (Annie) of Kansas City, MO. Seven great grandchildren include Karlin, Jillian, and Barrett Stuckey, Joseph, Zackary, and Lydia Frazier, and John Mullen.
Loretta graduated from Harper high school in 1934. After her marriage to Roy in 1935, they moved to a farm in the Star Center community. Living on a farm was new to her and so was cooking. She readily admitted this but quickly became well known for her fried chicken, chicken and noodles, and cherry pie. Her grandkids would attest that her chocolate meringue pie was the best. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting and raising her children. She occasionally helped with the election board and liked to be involed wit church activities.
Loretta was an active member in the Chicaskia Baptist church as secretary and teacher until she and Roy moved away from the community. She belonged to the 20th Century book club and was a leader in the Runnymede Rustlers 4-H club.
Anyone she knew that was hospitalized, sick or just having a birthday has no doubt received a card with a hand-written note from her. She wrote letters to many and continued to correspond to those who moved away from the community.
Loretta enjoyed traveling, quilting and being with friends. She was living at Villa Maria in Mulvane, KS where she died peacefully on October 14, 2007.
