Dorothy L. Mitchell was born and grew up in Clayton, New Mexico, on a homestead. She graduated from Clayton High School. Dorothy passed on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, the 48th anniversary of her marriage to T. "Jerry" Mitchell. They resided in Bombay, India, returning to Albuquerque in 1960. They also lived in Shiprock and Gallup. Dorothy worked for Sandia Base in the early 1950's, and in 1961 went to work for the Social Security Administration. She worked there until her retirement. Their early retirement years were spent at Cochiti Lake, returning to Albuquerque again in 1999.
