Robert H Gordon, Houston Native, Dies

Robert Hudson Gordon, Senior called "Hudson", the only son of the late John Quitman Gordon and Mrs. Martha Rowena Hudson Gordon, died suddenly of a heart attack in his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sunday at 7:30 pm, Dec. 2, 1962. He put his hands on his chest and said, "Oh My" and he was gone.

Hudson, the fourth child of five children, was born near Houston, Miss., in Chickasaw county. He attended public school in West Point, Miss. and finished Business College in Henderson, Tenn.

In 1920, he went to Tucumcari, New Mex., where he was first employed in the Rock Island Rail Road Office.

Then he went to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1928, where he was happily married to Miss Irene Mae Hayes from Denver, Colo. They had one child, Robert Hudson Gordon, Jr.

During World War 2, Hudson was employed by the U S Government at an Army Hospital in Santa Fe. Later he became a residential contractor.

In 1948, he and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mex. To send their son to the University of New Mexico. He continued to live in Albuquerque and was a residential contractor until he suffered his first heart attack about nine years ago. Since then he had been a salesman for the Keenan and Welsh Real Estate Firm in Albuquerque.

He was a member of the Methodist church, having joined when a small boy in West Point, Miss., when the Rev. T H Dorsey was pastor.

He was a highly respected citizen, possessing a jovial nature and had the gift of making friends easily. He was loved by all who knew him and appreciated his many sterling traits of character.

He was a devoted husband and father and a dear, loving brother. The funeral services were held in the French-Fitzgerald Chapel in the Garden in Albuquerque, Wednesday Dec. 5, 1962. The service was conducted by Dr. Clarence Van Der Veen, a Presbyterian minister.

The pallbearers were mostly men who worked in his Business Office. They were E F Nahonc, Arthur Welsh, John H Tuthill, J E Scaward, William Earnest, and Les Crain.

The organist was Mrs. Josephine Hammon and the soloist was Mr. Harry Hook. Besides his wife, Mr. Gordon is survived by one son, Robert Hudson Gordon, Jr., of Wichita, Kansas and two granddaughters, Holly and Heather Gordon; and four sisters, Mrs. Martha Mary Gordon Hodge, Vardaman, Miss., Mrs. Emma Maude Gordon Clark, Houston, Miss., Miss Alice Belle Gordon, Albuquerque, New Mex., and Mrs. Johnnie Rowena Gordon Swain, Albuquerque, N M., and one nephew, Samuel Gordon Clark, Sr., West Point, Miss., and one niece, Mrs. Dorothy Rowena Swain Gutscher of Albuquerque, New Mex.; and by four great nephews, Samuel Clark, Jr., and Tommy Clark of West Point, Miss., and Mark and David Gutscher of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was laid to rest in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Albuquerque, New Mex.
