Hurricane, Utah - Robert (Bob) Leland Heywood, 70, was called back to his Heavenly Father on January 8, 2011. Bob was born on March 5, 1940 in Hurricane, Utah to Gardiner and Wealthy Heywood.

He was sealed for time & all eternity to his high school sweetheart, Mavis Ruth Edwards, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 8, 1961.

Bob was a master carpenter and a "jack of all trades". He grew up in construction working with his father and brothers.

He traveled the 50 states with his wife and family building LDS chapels. One of his most exciting assignments was in 1978 when he was asked to direct the renovation of the Hawaiian temple. After he did such a wonderful job, Bob had the opportunity to be a manager of Temples and Special Projects for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1987, he was able to return to Hawaii and direct the renovation of the Visitor Center, add a cafeteria and an elevator to the Temple. He also supervised the installation of the IMAX theater in the Polynesian Cultural Center, and the LDS area office building in Honolulu.

He retired after moving back to Hurricane, Utah. He loved Hawaii and was an avid scuba diver. He also enjoyed boating, water-skiing, fishing and camping with his family. Photography was one of his favorite pastimes. He spent the last few years enjoying life on his farm and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He loved his Heavenly Father and was an active member of the LDS Church serving in many callings.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mavis; his children: Correne Johnson (John), of Salt Lake City, Utah, Craig Heywood (Teresa), of Lehi, Utah, David Heywood (Kerry), of Riverton, Utah, Deborah Morgan (Miles), of Hurricane, Utah, and Jason Heywood (Kristi), of Herriman, Utah; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five sisters; and three brothers.
