Daughter of Anthony and Josephine Mazzella Mazzella; wife of Daniel Desiderio Mazzella, married at Groton, Connecticut February 12, 1934.

THE DAY, New London, Connecticut May 3, 2010:
"East Lyme - Josephine Mazzella, 92, of Fairhaven Road, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Kindred Crossing East Healthcare, New London.

She was born June 9, 1917, in Brooklyn, Conn., she was the daughter of Anthony and Josephine Mazzella.

She married Daniel Desiderio Mazzella, who predeceased her in 1992.

Together they established the Victory Poultry Farm in Niantic during World War II, providing the then popular open range grown chickens and fresh eggs until they retired.

She was part of a large happy family of five boys and five girls.

Josephine leaves to cherish her memories daughter, Rosemary Rathbun of Niantic and sons, Charles of Waterford and Thomas and Silverio of Niantic; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Elsie Stadnick of Waterford and Hilda Savinelli of Rockledge, Fla.

She was predeceased by her son in 2008, Daniel Lewis Mazzella. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Ezazio, Anthony "Sam", James, Augustine "Willie" and Pomie and sisters, Mary Russo and Concetta Scotti.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4, at St. Agnes Church, Haigh Street Niantic. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. There are no calling hours. Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, has been entrusted with handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the of CT, 279 New Britain Rd., Suite #5, Kensington, CT 06037."
