September 23, 1813, Burke County, North Carolina, married Hannah M. Finley, daughter of John Finley, Mother unknown, Hannah is buried Oak Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery, Macon County, North Carolina, their son Charles W. Gibbs is buried at the same cemetery.

Son John Newton Gibbs, 1828 - 1904 and wife Sarah Ann Enloe, 1825 - 1875, are buried at Old Hopewell Cemetery, Cleburne County, Alabama.

**Daughter, Esther M. Gibbs, born, 10-1834, Macon County, North Carolina, died between 1900-1910, Fannin County, Georgia, married Thomas Posey Bryant, 1856.

In 1843, Bryant married his second wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ballew, she was the widow of Leonard (L. J.) Ballew. A Marriage Bond was found, the hand writing was hard to read, her maiden name looks to be Justice.
