Born Sept. 15, 1909, in Decorra to Clyde R. and Grace M. Wright Abernathy, he married Vera G. Weed on Oct. 26, 1934, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Kirk Ray of Macomb; and one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Karen) Schuttler of Galva.
He was a parts sales representative for WABCO/American Standard for 31 years, retiring in 1974. Before that, he ran Abby's Store, a haberdashery in Chillicothe, for two years.
He attended Bradley University. He was a member of George Washington Masonic Lodge 222 and was a charter member of Arrowhead Country Club, both in Chillicothe.
He donated his body to science.
