Born in Harrisburg, PA in 1840, daughter of Peter O'Rourke and Sarah Coulston Byrne. Her family moved to Memphis, TN, then migrated further west to St. Joseph. She first married William Augustine (1826-1864), and then John Miller (1832-1887). She was the mother of 10 children, at least seven of whom survived to adulthood.
