Merlin Conrad Stansbury was the son of Charles William Stansbury and Rita Marie Breaux. He graduated from Morgan City High School in 1942. During high school, he was a champion boxer, and was nicknamed "Champ" by his friends. From 1943-1945, he served as a laison scout in Patton's Third Army (Mechanized). After the war, he worked as a carpenter and married Margaret Mary Cram in 1947. He and Margaret had two children, Merlin, Jr. and Deborah Mary. He died at age 24 by accidental electricution while painting a house. Besides his wife and children, he left behind his parents and 11 siblings.
