Nellie Taylor Brittain, beloved wife and mother, was freed from the devastation of Alzheimer's into the arms of her Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2010. She leaves her husband of 68 years, Ramon Brittain, of Oliver Springs, TN, formerly of Connelly Springs, NC. Mrs. Brittain was born November 25, 1921, the 9th of 11 children of Henry and Neno Taylor.

Mrs. Brittain was preceded in death by her brothers Lester, Lewis, and Romer Taylor; and sisters Edna Young, Naomi Shell, Viola Kiser, Ruth Hoyle, and Mabel Abernathy.

Survivors include: son, Rex Brittain of Tacoma, WA; daughter, Nena Moss and husband Mickey of Oliver Springs, TN; sister, Mae Abernathy of Connelly Springs, NC; brother, Harvey Taylor of McKeesport, PA; grandchildren: Reg (Karen) Brittain, Claire Brittain, Reilly Brittain, Ben Moss, Aaron (Amber) Moss, and great-grandchild Lindsay Moss.

Mrs. Brittain was known for her Christian faith, nurturing spirit, hospitality, solo voice, and beautiful flower gardens. She retired from J.C. Penney in Hickory, NC in 1986.

Receiving of friends will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Connelly Springs, NC. Memorial service will follow at 4:00 with Dr. Dale Steele officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of Briarcliff Health Care Center, Oak Ridge, TN for their compassionate care of Mrs. Brittain during the last years of her life.
