Donna J. Peterson, 80, of Cumberland died Monday, January 3, 2011 at Cumberland Memorial Hospital. She was born July 15, 1930 in Frederic, WI to Lester and Helen (Pratt) Arneson.
She was married in South Dewey Methodist Church on September 6, 1947 to John Peterson who preceded her in death on May 7, 1993.
They farmed for many years in the McKinley area until 1979. Donna also owned and operated D&D Knits for several years.
She belonged to the Auxiliary at the Cumberland Memorial Hospital. Donna was very active at the McKinley Methodist Church, where she was the church organist and a Sunday School Teacher for many years.Later, she joined the Cumberland United Methodist Church and served on the UMW Board for both local and district offices. She was also a 4H Leader for many years.
Donna enjoyed quilting and belonged to the Piece Makers Club. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, and Donna loved to share what she made with others. She loved her family and her 13 great grandchildren brought her special joy.
She is survived by 2 sons, Donald (Sandi) Peterson of Barron and Richard (Lois) Peterson of Milwaukee; 1 daughter, Diane (Ron) Thompson of Greenbrier, TN; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Esther Geil of Bloomington, MN and Judy Kemmings of Harpers Ferry, IA; nephew, Tim (Dee Dee) Peterson of Draper, UT and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 7, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, Cumberland, WI with Rev. Annie Tricker officiating. Burial will be in McKinley Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brian Brecka, Todd Brecka, Steve Geil, Joel Geil, Greg Geil and Jeff Santo. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and for one hour prior to service on Friday at the church.
