Memorial by LaGrange Lodge:
LaGrange Lodge No. 30, I.O.O.F., has just deposited in the earth the mortal remains of our brother George R. Seay. Thus drop we off, one by one. We must all die - to the earth belongs our mortality, and there it must remain until the resurrection day. Our beloved brother, during his life, taught us by his Godly manner of living, that there is a life beyond the tomb to live for, and in his death he also taught us how a christian can die To him death had no terrors, and was but the entrance to joys that never fade. He has shown us that it is not all of life to live, nor all of death to die. He was an Odd Fellow indeed, and adorned the precepts of our beloved Order, both in his life and death. Oh may we be permitted all to die as peacefully as he. We sympathize with his bereaved family, and will wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days, and that the family of said brother be furnished with a copy of these proceedings under the seal of the Lodge.

From information found regarding Herbert Eanes, George Richard Seay's grandfather, George Richard Seay porbably left with his grandfather for Texas in 1851 in the Eanes/Ligon migration to Texas. George Richard Seay would be about 14 years of age at this time. His cousin, Missouri Ann Eanes (also his future wife) who also made the trip was 11 years of age. They would be married five year later on 19 May 1856 in Fayette Co., Texas.

George Richard Seay enlisted in the 5th mounted Texas volunteers under the command of Confederate Brig. Gen. Henry Hopkins Sibley. He got sick and stayed in the hospital at Fort Davis a few days. He made it as far as El Paso, Texas in December 1862. After this date, he is found back in La Grange, Texas. George later died in 1865.
The 1860 Texas census indicates that George was 24 living with wife Missouri and son Samuel 3 and son 6/12. George's ocupation is listed as "Merchant"

I give my Wife all authority to settle up my Estate and do not require any bond of her. She can sell any thing she may wish to pay my debts, but nothing more. I give my wife all power and authority to settle up my Estate and do not wish the County Court to have anything to do with my estate in any way. I wish my Wife to be guardian for My Children give them a good education which must come out of my estate. In witness whereof I sign my name bofore these Witnesses this the 1st day of January 1864
