Mrs. John Rickard Dies At Neligh Wednesday

Mrs. John Rickard died Wednesday at a hospital in Neligh. She was visiting in Bartlett when taken ill. The body is at Guide Rock but no funeral arrangements were available at press time.

Funeral Services Held for Mrs. John Rickard

Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Rickard, daughter of John and Mary Boggs, was born May 17, 1876, near Powellsville, Ohio. At the age of 14 years, she moved with her parents to a farm near Claytonia (sic), Gage county (sic), Nebraska.

She was the oldest of nine children, three of whom survive to mourn her passing. They are a sister: Mrs. Herman Alberts, of Hallam, Nebraska, and two brothers: Charles Boggs of Tobias, Nebraska and Walter Boggs of Harrington, Kansas.

She grew to young womanhood in Claytonia (sic) community and there met John Rickard, then a widower of 4 children. They were married December 23, 1892. In the spring of 1893 they moved to a farm in Frontier county (sic), this state and in 1894 moved again to a farm near Guide Rock, in Webster county (sic) where all the children were born and grew to manhood and womanhood and were married.

In the spring of 1938 the mother and father purchased a farm in Wheeler county (sic), near Bartlett, making this there home until August 10,1938, when husband and father passed away. The mother, however, continued to live on the farm with her youngest son. She spent much of her time visiting her other children there and in California and a daughter near Red Cloud. While in Red Cloud in December 1943 she suffered a severe stroke. She was totally paralyzed on one side and was bed fast for nearly 4 months. She recovered sufficiently from this to be able to get around nearly as well as before and was even able to make another visit alone, to her children in California and Oregon in July, 1943. She lived there a year and a half, returning to her home near Bartlett last October.

She took sick there on February 2nd and was taken to a hospital at Tilden, at which place she was called to her heavenly home, Wednesday morning, February 14, 1945, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 27 days.

Mother and grandmother Richard was of a quiet, kind, and lovable disposition, patient and always considerate of others. She was a real Christian and the latter part of her life was truly devoted to the Lord. She joined the First Baptist church of South Gate, California, while there visiting and later the Church of Christ at Red Cloud, to which she stayed faithful until her passing.

Eight children and four step children mourn her death, they are: Melvin Rickard of Elgin; Orville Rickard of Wilmar, California; Lillian Bright of Red Cloud; Mildred Reeve of Cottage Grove, Oregon; Thelma Clark of South Gate, California; Orley Rickard of Ewing; Willard Rickard of Chambers; Bernard of Bartlett; Myrtle, Claude and Murray Rickard all of Guide Rock; and Earl Rickard of Red Cloud. Mere words cannot express the sorrow all feel at her passing.

The funeral was held Sunday, at 2 o'clock at the Guide Rock, Methodist church, with sermon by Rev. Willard Chambers. The text was 1st Corinthians 15:58. with Miss Lila Lee Simpson at the piano, Lee Albin, Mrs. Ray Hunter, Mrs. Henry Pederson and Arthur Gourley sang three songs: :Whispering Hope", "Beautiful Life", and "The Eastern Gate".

Burial was made in the Guide Rock Cemetery.
