George C. Staples

Rockland - George C. Staples 86, died Monday, February 8, 2010 after a long illness.

Born in Rockland, he was the son of Hector G. and Bernice Fernald Staples. He attended Rockland schools and was a 1942 graduate of Rockland High School. Entering the US Navy, he was a veteran of World War II.

June 21, 1945, George married Charlotte Murphy in Rockland, where the couple made their home and raised their three daughters.

He was employed more than 42 years with Central Maine Power Company, first as lineman, working his way up to Supervisor. He retired in 1987.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Rockland Golf Club. George was also a longtime member of the Winslow-Holbrook- Merritt American Legion Post No. 1, Rockland.

Predeceased by his daughter, Elaine Seibold in 2005, and sister Priscilla Staples in 2009, George is survived by his loving wife Charlotte of Rockland; daughters Carolyn Chapman and her husband Sam of Waldoboro, Marie Goss and her husband Gene of Spruce Head; sister Charlotte Newhall of Rockland; son-in-law Albert Seibold of Santa Rosa, CA; six grandchildren, Christopher Goss of Portsmouth, NH, Dawn Goss Borden and her husband Ted of Sherborn, MA, Jason Chapman and his wife Laurie of Washington, ME, Andrew Chapman and his wife Vanessa of Waldoboro, ME, Eric Seibold and his wife Holly of Santa Rose, CA, Jeremy Seibold and his wife Effie of Superior, CO. There are seven great-grandchildren, Meredith and Amanda Borden of Sherborn, MA, Cole and Kyleigh Chapman of Washington, ME, and Shaylynn, Reece and Rowdy Seibold of Santa Rosa, CA.

Reverend Seth Jones officiated.

Interment in Achorn Cemetery, Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association Northern New England Chapter, The Concord Center, 10 Ferry Street, Suite 438, Box 314, Concord, NH 03301. Also because of his love of animals, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Knox County, P. O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
