Charlotte M. Staples, 96 died peacefully, Monday, June 21, 2021 at the Owl Head Homestead.

Born in Rockland, March 23, 1925, she was the daughter of Cecil and Gladys Knowlton Murphy.

She was a 1944 graduate of Rockland High School and worked as a sales clerk at Woolworths.

On June 21, 9145 she married her high school sweetheart, George Clayton Staples. Together they raised three beautiful daughters, Carolyn Chapman, Marie Goss and Elaine Seibold.

Charlotte was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who loved animals and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She spent years as a Girl Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher while raising her family and was a lifelong member of the Rockland Congregational Church. She enjoyed road trips and traveling, vacationing in New York, Washington DC, California, Hawaii, Prince Edward Island, Canada and Mexico. She was an avid golfer at the Rockland Country Club, and enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and the Red Sox on TV. Like many her age, she greatly enjoyed Judge Judy as well as playing along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

Monthly luncheons in the summer with high school classmates were some of her favorite pastimes and she was thrilled with pop-in visits from family, always welcoming them with a tin of cookies.

Charlotte and George had a long-standing tradition of hosting a lobster roll luncheon for family at their Chestnut Street home following the Lobster Festival parade; a tradition that has grown with her family and continues today.

Charlotte's son-in-law, Gene, built a beautiful home for her above his garage in Spruce Head where she resided after the loss of her husband in 2010. She loved bringing visitors to see her "upstairs suite." Since May of 2020 she has received great care and friendship from the wonderful professionals at the Homestead in Owls Head.

Predeceased by her husband; daughters, Elaine in 2005, Carolyn in 2016; a son-in-law Eugene Goss; brothers, Clifford and Clarence "Sonny"; and a sister, Verona Murphy Cummings.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Marie Goss of Spruce Head; sons-in-law, Sam Chapman of Waldoboro, Al Seibold of Santa Rosa, California; grandchildren, Christopher Goss of Stratham, New Hampshire, Dawn Goss Borden and her husband Ted of Sherborn, Massachusetts, Eric Seibold and his wife Holly of Santa Rosa, California, Jeremy Seibold and his wife Effie of Boulder, Colorado, Jason Chapman and his wife Laurie of Washington, Andy Chapman and his wife Vanessa of Waldoboro; twelve great-grandchildren, Meredith and Amanda Borden of Sherborn, Massachusetts, Shaylynn, Reese and Rowdy Seibold of Santa Rosa, California, Atticus and Knox Seibold of Boulder, Colorado, Cole and Kyleigh Chapman of Washington, Keenan, Mason and Ainsley Chapman of Waldoboro, and several nieces and nephews.
