She was born June 27, 1845, and had she lived until June would have been 90 years of age.
She was one of a large family, only one sister, Mrs. Sarah Houck, of New Grenada, surviving.
Her husband preceded her in death 22 years ago: a daughter, Laura (Mrs. D. M. Black) and two sons, Newton and George also preceded their mother in death.
The following children survive: Lillie, wife of Daniel Bollinger, Three Springs; Richard of New Grenada; Charles, of Allentown; Samuel, of New Grenada; Bertha, wife of Bert Heeter, of New Grenada; Daniel, of Trafford, Pa.; James of Three Springs; Guy and Mack C., at home. There are thirty-nine living grandchildren and fifty-four living great-grandchildren.
During her last few years her hearing and sight were not so good but her memory was keen and up until just a short time before her death she would relate many happenings of her early girlhood days.
She had a wonderful constitution never having been bed fast for longer than three weeks at one time, when she had diphtheria.
For a number of years the telephone central office had been located in her home and besides her housework she had helped operate.
For a number of years she kept the Central Hotel at New Grenada.
She became known for her good home-cooked meals. Her kindness and motherly interest in everyone stopping in her home.
Her sons operated a gas station and small grocery store, and during times they would be absent she would look after these and became "Mother" to most all.
Many of the coal truck drivers stopping, would visit with her during her last illness.
She will be sadly missed in the home and especially by the two sons who have always stayed at home.
She was a member of ??or. M. E. Church for many years.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, March 26, in the Bethel Church of God, conducted by a former M. E. minister, Rev. Herritt assisted by Rev. Fackler of the Church of God.
Burial was made in the cemetery adjoining the church, beside the body of her husband. R. Leslie Green, mortician in charge."
