Vincent J. Ackerman, 93, Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Reynolds, ND, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at home.

Vincent Joseph Ackerman was born June 3, 1913, the son of Julius and Anna (Schreiner) Ackerman in Michigan Township near Reynolds, ND where he was raised and attended rural school. For a time he worked on the family farm until he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked in California on a wildfire crew.

He returned to Reynolds and married Hazel J. Johnson on February 9, 1938. He was a life long farmer in the Reynolds area; living on his grandfather's (the Joseph Ackerman) farmstead. In the winters he worked for the American Crystal Sugar Co., the Traill County Highway Department and for the Greenwood Farms. He Retired in the early 1980's and moved to Grand Forks in 2001. Vincent was a long-time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Reynolds, the Knights of Columbus, Reynolds and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 350, East Grand Forks, MN. He was a man of strong faith, an avid reader and Twins fan.

Vincent is survived by his wife, Hazel; daughters, Karen (Jack) Skala, Mt. Iron, MN and Julie (Andrew) Luna, Lakeside, AZ; a son, Jason, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Roberta (Paul) Bloomquist, Kimberly (John) Witthauer, Jacquelyn (Dan) Sojka; great grandchildren, Thomas and Phillip Bloomquist, Ava and Jack Witthauer; a sister, Teresa Von Rueden, Grand Forks, ND; brother-in-law, Ted Breidenbach, Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Rose Crummy, Hilda Schabo, Monica Crummy, Helen Henry and Elizabeth Breidenbach, brothers, Richard, Donald and Francis.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2006 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service and a 4:30 p.m. rosary in Gregory J. Norman – Norman Funeral Home, S. Washington St., Grand Forks and one hour prior to the liturgy at the church on Friday.

Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND.
