Teresa M. Von Rueden, Grand Forks, ND died peacefully December 9, 2009 at 104 years of age at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks.

Teresa Margaret Ackerman Von Rueden was born April 8, 1905 in Reynolds, ND the daughter of Julius and Anna Marie (Schreiner) Ackerman. She was the third oldest of 10 children, 6 girls and 4 boys. She completed 8th grade, which was quite an accomplishment in her day and worked in her youth on the farm with her siblings. Very involved in church, she sang in the choir as a youth in Reynolds where she met John Von Rueden, her future husband. She married John L. Von Rueden of Hatton, ND on April 22, 1924. Teresa and John raised their three children in the Grand Forks Riverside Park neighborhood. They were devoted Catholics and life-long active members of St. Michaels Catholic Church, where Teresa was a member of the Altar Society, the Bridge Builders club and loved singing in the Choir. Teresa and John were very active members of the Grand Forks Elks Club, rarely missing a Saturday night dance with their many close friends. She found great joy in music and played piano by ear, sang at many local functions and encouraged her children and grandchildren's involvement and love of music and entertainment. While John ran his Barber Shop downtown, Teresa worked as a well-known area seamstress for many years getting to know many families in the Grand Forks area through her work. She also worked for Bray's and Norby's department stores doing alterations. She did all of this without driving as in her life, Teresa never desired to drive a car or get her driver's license.

Teresa was devoted to her children and grandchildren and she loved to be around young people. She spent many summers working at Riverside Pool where her sons were lifeguards because of her belief that "being around young people will keep me young." Her belief in this and her healthy approach to exercise and living stayed with her until the end. She will always be remembered as a caring, loving, fun, energetic, faith-driven, fashionable, beautiful woman. Her compassion, smile, always stylish presence and quick humor will be remembered by all who knew her. Her religious beliefs lead her to a quality of life she cherished and when it was time for her to go home, she looked forward to the journey.

Teresa is survived by, her daughters-in-law, Joan (Mrs. John) Schulz Von Rueden, Bismarck, ND, Audree (Mrs. Kenneth) Thomas Von Rueden, Manteca CA and a son- in- law, James V. (Kathryn) Sullivan, Prior Lake, MN; 7 grand children, Jody (Dave) Estensen, Kurt (Linda) Von Rueden, Karen Von Rueden, David (Charlotte) Von Rueden, Debbie (John) Peters, Diane DeBryun, Maureen (John) Koehnen and 12 great- grand children. She is also survived by her close friends, Susan and Neil Fontaine, who she loved as dearly as her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60+ years, John; her sons Kenneth and John; her daughter, Kathryn and her 6 sisters and 4 brothers.

In lieu of memorials, please send donations in Teresa's name to St. Michaels Catholic Church, 520 6th Street North, Grand Forks, ND 58203 and Valley Eldercare Center, 2900 14th Avenue South, Grand Forks, ND 58201
