Altie Cecil Cartwright, 64, 226 S. Galloway St., a Xenia resident most of his life, was found dead Sunday morning at his home. Death was attributed to a heart attack, according to County Coroner H.C. Schick.
Mr. Cartwright was born April 11, 1896 in Peebles, the son of Ira Branson and Ella Palmer Cartwright, and moved to Xenia at an early age. He served in World War I with the American Expeditionary Forces and was wounded in action in the Argonne Forest in October, 1918. He was a recipient of the Sliver Star for gallantry in action and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Cartwright was a member of Harold Cartwright Chapter 92, Disabled American Veterans of Xenia, which is named for his son, Harold R. Cartwright, who was killed in action in France during World War II.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ella Cartwright of Xenia; one son, Robert Edwin Cartwright of Xenia, a member of the Police Division; three brothers, Virgil of Xenia, Harley of Chillicothe and Robert Cartwright of Indiana; a sister, Mrs. Edna Davis of Xenia, and two grandchildren, Patricia Ann and Robert Thomas Cartwright. A brother, John Orville Cartwright, preceded him in death.
