LYON--At Mt. Union, Iowa, March 16, 1887, Sanderson Lyon, aged 60 years.
The subject of this sketch was born in Adair county, Kentucky, October 2nd, 1826. Moved to [present-day] Tennessee township, McDonough county, Illinois, in 1834. In 1840 his father died in Kentucky while there on business, leaving Sanderson with the care of his mother and four children. Although but young he did this faifhfully [sic], staying with his mother until all the children were married; when the war broke out he left his mother in charge of the married children, enlisted in the 12th Ill. cavalry, and shared in many of our fierce battles[.] He was married to [Mrs.] Sarah Buckhanan [Buchanan] in 1867, and moved to Iowa, where he leaves a widow and two daughters, one 18 and one 14 years of age. My. Lyon joined the M. E. Church when very young, being a faithful Christian until death. He was a brother of Mrs. George W. Keithley. Geo. W. K.
