A. Esther SMITH, 87, 510 E. Walnut St., Akron, died at 6:10 a.m. today at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester. She was in failing health three weeks.
Born in Akron to Wilbur Henry LANDIS and Alberta SHAFER LANDIS PERRY, she married Francis Ernest "Ernie" SMITH June 12, 1932 in Akron. He died Oct. 8, 1986.
Mrs. Smith was a retired shipping clerk at Sunoco Products, Akron. She was a member of Akron United Methodist Church, Amicus Club and Fulton County Republican Women.
Survivors include two sons, James A. [SMITH] and wife Karen, Glenwood, Ill., William E. [SMITH], Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Jane A. SHULL, Akron; six grandchildren, Lisa SMITH, Glenwood, Ill., Mike SMITH, Aloha, Ore., Jay SMITH, Ballwin, Mo., Marg WARDEN, Colorado Springs, Colo., Elyssa and Kristen SHULL, Akro ; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen COPLEN, Mesa, Ariz., Norma WHEELER, Warsaw; three brothers, Richard LANDIS, Chandler, Ariz., Robert LANDIS, Sandwich, Ill., and Don LANDIS, Sarasota, Fla.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Stevan HAIFLICH officiating. Burial will be at Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Historical Society, Fulton County Literacy Coalition or Akron Carnegie Library.
