Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Rochester, for Howard W. LANDIS, 81, 524 Clayton St. The Rev. Allan HAZEN will officiate. Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
Mr. Landis died at 3:35 a.m. Thursday at Rochester Health Care Center. He had been in failing health for over three months.
He was born in Akron to Wilbur and Alberta SHAFFER LANDIS. On April 9, 1966 in Goshen he married Eva SECOR DOWNING who survives. He was a retired truck driver for Burton Mechanical Contractors and a member of the Rochester VFW and American Legion. He was a member of the Warsaw Eagles Lodge.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Earl E. LANDIS, Grand Bays, Ala.; Lewis K. LANDIS, Fort Worth, Texas; Tom LANDIS, Rochester; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a step-daughter, Barbara Ann RILLIANDT, Warsaw; a step-son, Robert DOWNING, Warsaw; [four sisters, Esther SMITH, Akron; Vera GRANT, Lexington, Ky.; Mrs. Dean (Helen) COPLEN, Naples, Fla.; Mrs. Norman (Norma) WHEELER, Warsaw]; and four brothers, Arthur "Bud" LANDIS, Leesburg; Dick LANDIS, Tucson, Ariz.; Robert LANDIS, Naperville, Ill.; and Donald LANDIS, Tucson, Ariz. Preceding in death was a brother, Willis LANDIS.
