Our family stories stated he was from Texas, but it appears he was born in Mississippi and moved to Texas as a young boy. He married Wesley Ann Page on 4 April 1877 in Ft. Smith, Ar. It us unknown when or where he died. He had a criminal background, which means he may have been incarcerated at the time of his death or even may have been murdered. He is only documented as having been living in Pocola, LeFlore County, OK between 1877 and 1882. He does appear to have been previously married to a Mary Gresham and had a son named James Conaway born in 1869 in Anderson County, TX. Wether he abandonded this family or they died has not yet been determined.
