Letitia Ralston Smiley was the daughter of William and Christiana Smiley.

On the 1850 Dist. 2, Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer William Smily (sic), 50; Thomas Smily, 8; Christiana Smily, 45; Mary A Smily, 6 and Letitia R Smily, 4, all VA born.

On the 1870 Augusta Co., VA census, millright Wm Smiley, 70; other Smileys: Christiana, 64; Thos M., 27; Mary A., 25 and Letitia, 23, all VA born.

On the 1910 Riverheads, Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer Thomas M Smiley, 66; wife of 35 years, Ellen L Smiley, 60, had 4 kids, all living; son Argyle T Smiley, 28; sister Letitia R Smiley, 63 and servant Margaret Ware, 8. They were all VA born, except for wife Ellen, born in NC

Letitia Ralston Smiley was born on 6 Feb 1847 in Augusta Co., VA, to parents William Smiley and Christiana Martin. She resided in Moffatts (sic) Creek. On 3 Jun 1934, she died in Riverheads Dist, Augusta Co., VA. VA Cert. of Death #16822.

"Miss Letitia R. Smiley died at her home, "The Cedars," near Newport, Sunday afternoon at 7 o'clock following several months' illness. Miss Smiley was a sister of the late Captain Thomas M. Smiley, who for nearly 40 years was superintendent of New Providence Sunday school. Possessing a naturally bright mind, improved by culture and education, enabled her to live a life of great value and usefulness in a community where she spent four score and seven years. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Richard Hogshead, of Moffatts Creek, two nephews, Captain William V. Smiley of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Grier R. Smiley of Louisville, Ky. Both of the latter are here for the funeral, which will be held at the residence Wedby Rev. C. M. Hanna. Burial will be in New Providence churchyard."
