WHITE, Blair R.

Blair R. White, 77, formerly of Belle Ave., Enfield, died Wednesday, (February 9, 2000) at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford. Blair's wife, Norma (Allen) White, predeceased him in 1994. Born on July 31, 1922, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, a son of the late Francis and Josephine (Cormier) White, Blair lived in the community for most of his life. He attended local schools, where he excelled in his studies and participated in athletics, musicals, and dramatic productions. Blair worked as a yarn weigher at the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co., before being inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in campaigns in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He received several medals and ribbons during his years of active service. He was also a member of the Tanguay-Magill Post #80 American Legion in Enfield. Subsequently, Blair was employed for many years as a foreman at Stanadyne, Inc. in Windsor, retiring from there in 1985. An avid bird-watcher and gardener, Blair spent many happy hours tending his vegetable gardens and feeding the birds. He leaves a son, Blair A. White and his wife, Joyce of Enfield; a daughter, Cynthia White of Enfield; a daughter, Nancy (White) Simonds and her husband, Michael of South Windsor; two grandsons and their spouses, Timothy and Marianne White, and Dennis and Michele White, all of Enfield; a sister, Anna Bernard of Enfield; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis White of Springfield and Betty White of Gilsum, NH; and several nieces and nephews. Blair was predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Mary Cormier, Ernestine Browne, Evelyn Dunne, F. Lawrence White, Edward White, and Annette Gebo. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 14, at 9:15 a.m. from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Burial with Military Honors, will be in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery, Enfield. Blair's family will receive relatives and friends at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels on Sunday, from 4-7 p.m. Donations in Blair's memory may be made to the Resident's Council Fund, Parkway Pavilion Healthcare, 1157 Enfield St., Enfield, CT. 06082.
