David Hill was a Taylor County Judge for many years and served on the school board in the early days of Abilene. He was named for his 3rd-great-grandfather David Graham, a Scots-Irishman who arrived in the Province of South Carolina with his wife and children in the 18th century.

David G. Hill graduated from Trinity University, Texas, in 1879, and in 1884 traveled to Tuskegee, Alabama, to marry Lucerne Campbell, whom he met when she traveled to visit her older brother in Texas.

Member of the Elks Club.

In 1883, Judge Hill and others strapped on their guns and rode horseback to Buffalo Gap, a little town about 20 miles south of Abilene, to bring Taylor County's records to Abilene -- after it was decided via public referendum to move the county seat. They were prepared for a shootout, but in the end it was a peaceful transfer!

Biographical notes added 2015-17, by Sandi, one of his great-grandchildren.
