Malcolm H. Hill established himself in farming or ranching in Fayette County and is listed there with his family on the 1860 and 1870 U.S. Census records, in the vicinity of Round Top, Texas.
Evidently there was a divorce, as M. H. Hill remarried while Mary Janet Hill was still living. On the 1880 Census, he was a resident of Lee County. (If I recall correctly, Mary J. Hill was listed as "widow" on at least one Census, which must have been from a sense of social propriety.)
Note about the youngest offspring: From the death dates on their memorials, Malcolm and second wife Hester were deceased before their little son's ninth birthday. W. C. Hill must have been raised by someone else.
