Hattie A. McCann, 77, of 911 1/2 8th Street, died today at the Iowa Lutheran Home in Madrid.

Born August 9, 1896 in Madison, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Frederick Morris and Emelia Henrietta (Rathel) Zessin. In 1915 she was married to Charles Smalley at Devils Lake, North Dakota. On September 12, 1952 she was married to Howell McCann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a daughter, Helen Fern. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William (Vivian) Wheelock of Boone; a brother, Andrew Zessin of Milton-Free Water, Oregon; a sister, Adella DeBoer of Stark Weather, North Dakota; a grandson, Charles of Des Moines; a granddaughter, Mrs. Connie Martin of Tucson, Arizona; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home with burial in Boone Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon at the Schroeder Funeral Home.

She is the sister of Adella (DeBoer), Andrew Zessin and Helen (Vavrick) and was married first to Smalley and second to McCann.
