Mrs. Ada Church Shuford, former business woman, Red Cross chairman and church leader, died yesterday at 12:15 p.m. at the residence, 212 Pocahontas Drive, Virginia Beach.
A native of Louisville, Ky., she had resided in the Norfolk area most of her life, the last 20 years at Virginia Beach.
For several years, she was in the real estate business at the beach, and prior to that was associated with her husband, the late Charles Sylvanus Shuford, in operating the Republic Creosoting Company for two decades.
She was a teacher of the Fidelis Bible Class of the First Baptist Church for a number of years when she resided in Norfolk. Between 1936 and 1941, she had an active role in the annual Red Cross fund drives, serving as chairman on two occasions.
Her late parents were Joseph F. and Mrs. Mattie Ball Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. E.V. Caulfield, one sister, Miss Mattye Church, one granddaughter, Mrs. W.C. Robey, and one great-grandson, David Lee Robey, all of Virginia Beach.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
