John Riley Johnston was the son of John C. Johnston & mother unknown. John had several brothers & sisters. They were:

6) Robert Lee Johnston
John was raised by his father & stepmother, Sarah C. Coatney Bingham Johnston. As a result of his father's marriage to Sarah, John Riley Johnston had the following half-siblings:
1) Modica Johnston
2) Susan L. Johnston
3) Samuel Marion Johnson (he dropped the "t" from his surname).
There were also several step-siblings because Sarah Coatney had been married prior to her marriage to John C. Johnston in 1870.
John Riley Johnston married Elizabeth H. "Lizzie" Stockbridge on Feb. 15, 1886 in Comanche Co., Texas. She died in 1921 and John never remarried.
