Rosswell F Barnes was the son of Bartholomew Barnes and Sarah Pierce.

He grew up in Alden, Erie County, New York. He married Juliette Gardner, the wife of his brother John J, on March 27 1872, in Cherry Creek, Chautauqua County, New York, after John had died in 1867.

John and Juliette moved to Potter County, Pennsylvania. They lived in Allegany and Sweden Valley. They had two additional children, Edgar J and Albert, in addition to Willet who was with them.

John's brother William also lived in the county for a while around 1910 (1910 census).

After Julia died, Rosswell continued to live in Sweden. He died on Feb 28, 1910. His burial place is not known, but it may be in the same cemetery as his wife, the Sweden or Sweden Hill Cemetery. His death certificate states buried in "Sweden Township".
