"Capt. Hugh Adams, Jan. 26, 1793 to Sep. 7, 1857, aged 64 year, 7 months and 11 days." Using the marker age at death and the death date, he was born 1 day later on 27 Jan 1793 instead. Perhaps a mathematical error.

Hugh Adam was born in Rockbridge Co., Virginia in about 1793 (age 64) to parents Jno and Jane Adams. On 7 Sep 1857, he died in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. Per the Rockbridge Co., Virginia Death Register, line 15, Film # 004225407 on Familysearch, 192/635 (very light copy).

See further data on him and his family in Henry Whittemore's The History of the Adams Family, With Biographical Sketches of Distinguished Descendants of the Several American Ancestors....., 1893 publication in NY, p 71-73. It says he was the son of John Adams and Jane Hutchinson. Both sons, Capt. James and Capt. Hugh served in the War of 1812. Hugh died a bachelor, born in 1793. His parents and some siblings and family are also buried at this cemetery. He was a large farmer and "bequeathed his entire fortune to his slaves, who by his direction were freed and transported to Liberia at his death." (Wow!)

"J. W. DAVIES Richd." on his marker is the name of engraver in Richmond.
