At Groesbeck, Tex. On Tuesday Jan. 3, the soul of Welch Bates broke its bonds of clay and so sought refuge in the arms of the great Father of the Universe, after several days of that dread disease pneumonia. All that loving hands and medical skill could do to relieve him of suffering was done but to no avail.
He was at the time of his death, just budding into manhood. He possessed all the manly traits that indicated a bright future for him, and O how sad to separate from him just in the prime of life, but weep not, dear friends, our loss is Haven's gain.
May the good and allwise Father above console the sorrowing relatives and friends in their hour of sorrow and may He in His infinite wisdom aid him that they may be able to meet in the great and beautiful Beyond where sorrow shall be no more. (The State Herald, Mexia, Tex., Feb. 9, 1905
