Samuel Keith Leedy was the 6th of 12 children born to "Big" John & Elizabeth (Keith) Leedy. He was born in a log cabin that his father had erected just 5 years before his birth on Sec. 35 Jefferson Twp., Richland Co., OH.

Raised a farmer, Samuel Keith Leedy married 10-15-1840 in Jefferson Twp., Richland Co., OH to Miss Margaret Whitnah (1821-1903). She was the daughter of Joseph Henry & Ruth Southwood (Burns) Whitnah. Samuel & Margaret Leedy were the parents of 6 children.

Samuel Leedy loved singing and taught others to sing. It is said he had a wonderful mellow bass voice. He helped his father keep a tavern and hotel at Bellville, Ohio that he took over after the death of his father in 1851. Towards the end of his life he reportedly suffered rapid health and mental deterioration. He had been working outside of the tavern early in the Spring of 1853 when he came down with a fever that he never recovered from. He made his last will and testament one month before he passed away at the age of 36y-2m-29d.
