Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 3, 2006 at a 12:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire, LA for Lula Venable Richard, age 89, the former Lula Meche, who passed away Friday, September 1, 2006 at 1:40 PM at Bethany Nursing Home in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Mire. The Very Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Mire, will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus.

Mrs. Richard was a native of the Mire/Church Point area and had been a resident of Lafayette for more than 25 years. She was a parishioner of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette.

Survivors include three sons, Duplecie Venable and his wife, Delores, of Carencro; Felton Venable and his wife, Anna, of Church Point, LA and Earl Venable and his wife, Cheryl of Broussard; one daughter, Eva Rose McBride and her husband, Charles Ray, of Lafayette; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Willis Meche and his wife, Julie, of Prairie Rhonde, LA and Leroy Meche of Lake Charles, LA; and one sister, Ezar Meche of Baton Rouge, LA.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Venable; her second husband, Roy Richard; her parents, Ajadie Meche and the former Azinia Boudreaux, both natives of Mire, LA; one son, J.T. Joseph Venable; six brothers, Cyrus Meche, Hebert Meche, Elton Meche, Murphy Meche, Thurman Meche and Loisey Meche; and one sister, Viola Meche.

Pallbearers will be Dup Venable, Felton Venable, Earl Venable, Darren Venable, Kevin McBride and Jeremy Venable.

Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue was in charge of arrangements.
