enlistment date: 14 December 1917
discharge date: 21 January 1919

Corbin W. Wyant, a businessman-publisher who made modernization of The Leader-Times the work of his lifetime, died early today (February 23, 1961) of a heart attack. He was 64.

Mr. Wyant was president and treasurer of Simpsons' Publishing Co., publisher of The Daily Leader-Times and The Armstrong Democrat and Sentinel-Times.
His death was completely unexpected. He had dined late yesterday with a business adviser, then resumed a conference which had begun in the late afternoon.
He was seized during the night, and collapsed in the bathroom of his home, 501 N. Jefferson St.
He was pronounced deat at once by the doctor who responded to the family's call.
Mr. Wyant had guided The Leader-Times since 1930. He left a banking career at that time to become general manager of the publishing company following the death of Roland B. Simpson.
Five years later, he obtained controlling interest of the company.
In the intervening years, through careful business management, he had made The Leader-Times one of the most modern small newspaper plants in Pennsylvania.
He never forsook his interest in banking. He had disposed of bank holdings some years ago, after serving for years as a director and vice-president of Farmers National Bank, Kittanning.
His first business association was with Armstrong County Trust Co., where he was employed for 10 years-five as trust officer-before going into newspapering.
He had also many civic interests.
At the time of his death he was serving as president of MACADO (Middle Armstrong County Area Development Organization), which was spearheading the community effort to bring new industry into the area.
He was a director of Kittanning Area Chamber of Commerce, and a former vice-president of that organization.
His church affiliation was with First Baptist Church, Kittanning, where he was a member of the Board of Trustees.
A veteran of Navy service in World War I, he was a member of Kittanning posts of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, and a post commander of the latter organization.
He had supported numerous civic and youth groups, among them YCMA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and had served on the Finance Committee of Pioneer Trails Boy Scout Council.
He was a director of Kittanning Cemetery Association, a leader in Armstrong County Historical Society affairs, and a member of Kittanning Police Civil Service Commission.
He was a member and former director also of Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association, and of the American Newspaper Publishers Association.
He was a member of Lodge 244 of Free and Accepted Masons, Kittanning, and a 32d degree member of Coudersport Consistory.
Mr. Wyant was born March 23, 1896 at Templeton, a son of Dr. J.B.P. Wyant and Mary Louise (Gilbert) Wyant. He was educated in the public schools of Kittanning, and was graduated in 1920 with a bachelor of science degree from Bucknell University.
Survivors are his wife, Velma Turner Wyant; three sons, James M. and Corbin A., both Kittanning; and John W. Wyant, Talahassee, Fla.
Five grandchildren also survive, as do two sisters, Mrs. Daniel E. Caulk and Mrs. Margaret Simpson, both Kittanning RD 3.
Friends are being received at Bauer Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Family visitation hours are 7 to 9 tonight and Friday night, and 2 to 4 p.m. Friday.
