Grace Franceschino, 89, of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, February 14, 1998 in the Phillipsburg Care Center.
She was a silk worker for several area silk mills including the former Onandago Silk Mill in Easton, from which she retired.
Born December 23, 1908 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sadie DiPeitro Alfier.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.
She was a former member of the Y.M.I.A. Ladies Auxillary of Phillipsburg and was a former secretary and treasurer of the Marie S.S. Assunta Society of Phillipsburg.
Her husband, the late John A. Franceschino died in 1980.
She is survived by a son, John N. of Phillipsburg; a sister, Mary Torcivia of Lopatcong Twp.; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Four brothers, Nicholas, Philip, Thomas and Anthony and two sisters; Jennie Patti and Ann Scarpino and a granddaughter all died earlier.
Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Wednesday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated 9:30 a.m. in St. Philip and St. James, 426 South St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, Greenwich Twp., NJ
John Anthony Franceschino
John Franceschino was born on September 7, 1909 on East 12th. Street in the East Village in Manhattan, N.Y.C. He was a son of Fiore Franceschino and Laurino Franceschino. Laurino, John's mother, was fifteen years old when she married and died before the family moved to Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Fiore, John's father, next married Clementina.
After John and Grace married they first lived with her parents at 135 Cedar Alley in Phillipsburg, N.J.
Grace was a daughter of Joseph and Sadie DiPietro Alfier. Joseph and Sadie both emigrated to America in 1899.
Fiore Franceschino was born in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy in 1884. He arrived in America at Ellis Island aboard the ship SS Patria on August 31, 1903. He arrived with $25.
