Frederick Oliver Amsden (went by Fred) was the youngest of three known children of John Henry Amsden (1842-1912) and Cynthia Ann Parker (1844-1874), who married 22 May 1864 at Iron County, Missouri. After Cynthia died John remarried to Cassandra Amanda "Mandy" Ann Meadows (1858-1937) on 31 Jan 1876 at West Fork, Reynolds County, Missouri and had an additional ten known children.

Fred first married to Araminta Paralee (went by Paralee) Roberts (1874-1915) on 26 Mar 1892 at Des Arc, Iron County, Missouri. Fred and Paralee were the parents of eleven known children, namely:

1. Grace "Gracey" Leah Amsden Morris (1892-1946)
2. Edna Gray Amsden Hawk (1894-1925)
3. Macy Myra Amsden Lewis (1896-1981)
4. Cressie Mays Amsden (1898-1977)
5. Clara Ethel Amsden Hoehn (1901-1981)
6. Charles Raymond Amsden (1904-1956)
7. Myrtle Chlorine Amsden Buckey (1906-1988)
8. Harold Eugene Amsden (1908-1908)
9. Alma Jane Amsden (1909-1910)
10. Thelma Elizabeth Amsden Thompson (1912-1981)

After Paralee died, Fred remarried to the widow Laura May Adams Stevenson (1887-1930) on 17 Jun 1927 at Iron County, Missouri, but had no known additional children.

After Laura died Fred remarried to Belle Wynne (???-???) in 1933. After Fred and Belle divorced, Fred remarried to the widow Talitha Alice (went by Alice) Box Paullus (1879-1965) on 18 May 1945 at Wayne County, Missouri. Fred was not thought to have any additional children by his last two known wives.
