Hastings resident Elmer C Hoefer, 84, of 11135 W Lochland Road died Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.

Services are Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hastings with the Rev Bill Liddell officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Immanuel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery near Hastings. Butler-Volland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr Hoefer was born Sept 30, 1914 to Gerhard and Meta (Kothe) Hoefer on the family farm southwest of Hastings. He attended Kelly School in rural Adams County. He served in the U S Army in the Philippine Islands and Okinawa from 1942-45 in the 96th Infantry Division. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberating Ribbon and with one bronze star, Combat Infantryman Badge and two battle stars. On May 1, 1954, he married Evelyn Uden at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a farmer in Adams County.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church where he held several church offices, DAV and American Legion Post No 11.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Tammy Gentert of Hastings; one brother, Walter of Hastings and two grandchildren.
