Irene R. Havel, 92, died Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Perkins Pavilion. Irene was born February 17, 1913 in Cowles, Nebraska to Otto & Tillie (DeTour) Portenier.

Irene graduated from Cowles High School and Kearney Teachers College, Kearney, Nebraska. On November 2, 1935, she married William R. Havel in Red Cloud, Nebraska and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1985. She was a day care provider at Hastings State Hospital for 20 years, then she worked at J.M McDonald Department Stores Executive Offices and Warehouse and later at Good Samaritan Village, before retiring. She was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Elks Does, American Legion and Eagles Auxiliary.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William, three brothers and one sister.
