Cortez- Isabel Cortez, 18, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Don T. Cortez of Horton, died at the Horton Hospital Sunday morning, following a brief illness. She was taken to the hospital Sept. 20, said to be suffering from a virus infection. Saturday her condition seemed to be greatly improved, according to members of her family, and her death Sunday was entirely unexpected. Death was due to cerebral embolus, the attending physician stated.
Isabel was born in Horton July 7, 1933, attended St. Leo's parish grade school and graduated from the Horton High School last May, 1951. She took an active part in school events and was popular with students and teachers. Isabel accompanied by a relative, made a trip to her parent's native Mexico during the summer vacation.
She is survived by her parents, three sisters, Rita, Juanita and Julia and three brothers, Tony, John and Fermin all of the home; a brother Bernard who is a member of the U.S. Air Force stationed at Keesler AFB, Miss.; and a grandfather, Vincent Landin Sr., also of the home.
Rosary will be said at the home, 531 West 9th Street, at 8 o'clock tonight, (Monday). Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Tuesday.
