Rice P. Burns Sr., 81, of Sikeston, MO, died at 3:25 p.m. Aug. 2, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.
Born Dec. 7, 1924, in Sawmill No. 3, Colbert County, AL, to the late Berry Ellis and Sue Petree Burns, he was a 1942 graduate of Central High School in Memphis, TN. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Pickaway in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. He worked for 27 years for Malone and Hyde, moving to Sikeston from Memphis in 1960. He was a member of Shady Acres Church of Christ.
On Nov. 7, 1945, in Hernando, MS he married Jacqueline Jean Kenyon, who preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 1981. On Sept. 26, 1981, in Sikeston, he married Amy Lee Clinton Engram, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Rice P. and Ann Burns Jr. and David T. and Becky Burns Sr.; one daughter, Linda L. Bell; two brothers, Edgar E. Burns Sr. and Joe A. Burns Sr.; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Leslie and Kevin Laws, Amy and Jon Montague, Jeff Burns, Molly and Andrew Watkins, D.J. and Dawn Burns, Tyler Burns, Nathan Bell, Zachary Bell and Erin Bell; four great-grandchildren, Emma Montague, Riley Montague, Lauren Laws and Jackson Bell.
Visitation was held at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Services were held at Shady Acres Church of Christ, with Johnny Hester and Pat Hogan, ministers, officiating.
