John H. "Jack" Hilt, 82, of Springfield, formerly of East Peoria, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born March 6, 1919, in Springfield, the son of Charles H. and Mary R. Kelso Hilt. He married Florence Rhodes in 1942. He later married Elizabeth Lucile Ellermeyer in 1964 in East Peoria; she preceded him in death in 1996. Mr. Hilt worked at Caterpillar Inc. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, receiving three Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. He was a member of VFW Post 755 and the American Legion. He was a former member of United Auto Workers Local 974 in East Peoria. Survivors: a son, John C. (wife, Judy) Hilt of Pekin; a daughter, Alesia (husband, Rob) Conover of Pekin; eight grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters. Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Friday, Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, the Rev. Terry C. Edele officiating. Woolsey Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
