In 1840 he and his parents and four siblings lived in Franklin Township, Armstrong County, PA. Also living with them was another adult woman--possibly his mother's sister.

In 1850 he and his parents and seven siblings lived on a farm in Wilmington Township, Lawrence County, PA.

In 1860 he and his parents and five siblings lived in Worth Township, Butler County, PA. His father was a cordwainer (a shoemaker) and he was a carpenter.

In 1880 he and his wife and their eight children lived in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, PA. He was a carpenter.

In 1900 he and his wife and eight of their children lived in the same township on a farm they owned, mortgage free. Their farmhouse must have been the one in the picture at left. Later censuses give the address as the Harmony and Mercer Road or the Mercer and Pittsburg Road. It must have been along what is now U.S. Highway 19 in the northeastern corner of the township.

In 1910 he and Catherine and five of their children and a granddaughter lived there on the farm. Also living with them was a four-year-old boarder, Mary Gresher (or Gusher, it was hard to tell on the census record).

In 1920 he and his wife, their daughter Sarah Black, and their son Joseph were the only ones still living there.

their other child was:
Clara Maude (Minteer Emery) Haus (1883-1974)
