Henry E. "Pick" Best, 88, of Tovey died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born Aug. 18, 1913, in Rochester, the son of George Henry and Mary Robb Best. He married Rosalie "Rose" Hardt in 1946 in Springfield. He was preceded in death by a son, James Best. Mr. Best was a face boss at Peabody Coal Mine 10 in Pawnee, retiring in 1973, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 9819. Survivors: wife, Rosalie "Rose"; two daughters, Carol Kohler of Tovey and Patricia (husband, Cyrus) Devol of Palatine; three sons, Robert Best of Palatine, William Best of Fort Madison, Iowa and Gary Best of Tovey; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, the Rev. James Gilbert "Gib" (wife, Reba) Best of Tovey. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, the Rev. James Gilbert Best officiating. Burial: Anderson Cemetery in Palmer.
